Festung Ehrenbreitstein

This post is long overdue, as are some other posts that will hopefully be coming shortly.

About a month ago, we met up with some friends in Niederwerth, which is an island in the middle of the Rhein River, just outside of Koblenz.  I know Laura and her family from Houston.  They moved out here just over a year ago to go to graduate school.  It has been a lot of fun getting to know them better and having friends from home nearby.

Rothenburg

Not only was last Tuesday Tybee’s 2 month birthday, but it was the 2 year anniversary of mine and James’ first date, which was on Tybee Island in Georgia.  That was where and when our life together began.  So we thought it very fitting to name our sweet little angel after a very significant and beautiful place.
To celebrate this anniversary of ours we wanted to take a day trip somewhere and so we decided to head to Rothenburg and invited some friends of ours, the Meyers family, to join us.

Eltville and the Rhein

A few weeks ago James and I had the pleasure of watching some friends’ kids while they went on vacation.  It was very eye opening for all three of us.  I’m afraid we tend to get set in our ways and routines and so we had to do some adjusting, but we enjoyed having Grant and Sydney with us for the week.  One of the days we decided to get the kids out of the house and explore our cute little village, Eltville, and walk along the Rhein.  We are so fortunate to be only a ten minute walk from the river.DSCN0931 DSCN0930

The peach colored building on the corner on the right is our bakery.  Yes, it is only a couple of minutes from our house.  I ventured there for the first time today.  It was awesome!  I haven’t been that impressed with the other bakeries we’ve visited so far, but this one was sooo good.  I cannot wait to go back.  Ethan went with me and I took a picture of him with the treat he picked out.  I will have to post it and share the rest of the story soon.

There are a lot of really cute shops down this strasse.  They are expensive, but their stuff is super cute.

I love the cobblestone streets too, except when I’m in heals.  We were at the temple on Saturday and they have cobblestone walkways around the temple.  I wore heals and that was not so much fun.

The leaves are so beautiful right now too.  I am loving fall here!

Along the river they have all of these benches set up with these very cute trees.  I keep saying I’m going to come down here and enjoy a good book for an afternoon, but I’ve waited too long and now it is way too cold.  Who knows, maybe I’ll brave it anyway.

Poor Ethan, just as I pushed the button to take this picture, he biffed it on the rocks.  I have such great timing.

Here is our very own castle.

Right next to the castle is this beautiful flower garden.  The smells in here are amazing.

I would love to live in this place and have a view of the garden from my windows.

Here’s another bench I want to come sit on and read.

Two Months of Adventures!

DSCN0804

I can’t believe it’s been two months since I’ve posted anything. A lot has happened since then. We are now in Wiesbaden, Germany and here is a picture of our view from our hotel. It is such a beautiful place to be. The last two months we have been in Texas and Utah visiting family and friends. Here are a few pictures and videos from our adventures.

After James’ graduation, we packed up the car, left Monterey, California, and headed to Texas.DSCN0541

We decided to make the three day trip a little more exciting by stopping at the Grand Canyon halfway. It was well worth the extra hour.

In San Antonio we stopped by a really fun animal park, where you get to drive around and feed the animals out of your hand. There are some that are starving for attention and some that are starving for food. They were so cute.

On Pioneer Day, we decided to try something new…ice blocking. It was so much fun, but a bit scary.

Now we are in Germany and trying to get used to the change in culture, language, time, and everything else that is different, but loving every minute of it. Here are a few pictures we took on the top of the roof of our hotel.
